Free Local Rank Checker

Local rankings change from street to street. Enter your business and a keyword and we check your position at every point of a grid around your location, so you see where you win, where you vanish, and who takes your place.

Part of our Local rankings & Google Maps tools · ~10–20 seconds · Input: Business + one keyword

Start typing and pick your business from the suggestions — the grid is built around its exact location.

One keyword per check. Start with your main service + city, then the generic head term.

Grid size

5×5 uses 3× your daily limit.

Spacing

Spacing is the distance between neighbouring grid points. A 3×3 grid at 1 km covers 2 km across your location.

How it works

How the local rank checker works

  1. 1

    Choose business, keyword and grid

Pick a 3×3 or 5×5 grid and how far apart the points are (0.5, 1 or 2 km).

  2. 2

    We search from every point

Each grid point runs the keyword through Google Places with that location as the searcher’s position and records where you appear in the top 20.

  3. 3

    Read the heat map

Green cells are top-3 positions, amber 4–10, orange 11–20, grey not found. The summary and competitor list tell you where to focus.

How the heat map is measured

For every grid point we run a Google Places text search for your keyword, biased to that point's coordinates — the same way Google weighs a searcher's position — and record the 1-based position of your place ID among the top 20 results. Results track Google Maps closely, but Maps also personalises by search history, device and time of day, so read the pattern across cells rather than a single square. Any ranking beyond position 20 shows as 20+.

Local Rank Checker — questions we get asked

Why do I rank #1 at my address but not 2 km away? +

Proximity is the strongest local ranking signal. The further the searcher is from you (and the closer to a competitor), the harder it is to hold a top-3 spot. The heat map shows exactly where that boundary sits.

Is this a Google Maps rank tracker? +

It is a free on-demand checker. Run it whenever you want a snapshot; it does not store history or send reports.

What keyword should I check? +

Start with your primary service + city ("emergency plumber austin") and the generic head term ("plumber"). Then test the services you want to grow.

Is the local rank checker free? +

Yes — free forever with a fair daily limit per visitor so everyone can use it.
