Locan is a small team of local SEO specialists. We publish seven free local SEO tools and practitioner guides, and we run a paid tracker that shows whether AI assistants recommend a business.
Who we are
Local SEO for small businesses, for more than eight years
Dentists, plumbers, restaurants, clinics, and agencies with dozens of locations, across the US, the UK, Australia and Europe. The tools started as scripts we ran for clients; the guides are the explanations we kept writing in emails.
Why the tools are free
A one-minute check shouldn't need a subscription
So the seven tools and the guides are free and need no account. They read the same public data a customer sees, show their method and never change your profile. Their code is open source (AGPL), so you can also run them on your own server.
What we charge for
The AI visibility tracker, on a monthly or yearly plan
The tracker asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode the questions your customers ask, on a schedule, through paid APIs. So it is a paid plan: Basic $49, Pro $99, Agency $199 a month, 20% less billed yearly, tax included. If you use one of our free tools, your first month of Basic is free (30 days, card needed).

Six principles every tool, guide and report has to pass
The free tools stay free
The seven tools and the guides need no account and no card. A daily limit per visitor keeps them free for everyone. The report you see is the whole report.
The tracker is a plan with credits
Every question the tracker checks calls paid AI and search APIs, so each plan comes with credits: 1 credit = 1 question checked on 1 AI platform. Keywords, locations and members are unlimited on every plan, with no per-location and no per-seat fees.
Built by practitioners
Every tool, every scoring rule and every guide comes from years of ranking real local businesses, not from a content farm or a growth team.
Read-only and honest
We never touch your profile. When a result is an estimate (the rank grid, the free AI check), the page says so and explains how it was made.
Explain the why
Tools and the tracker tell you what to fix; guides tell you why it matters, what Google actually says, and what we observe in practice.
No noise
The free tools ask for your email. What you get: One confirmation email, then a short note when a free tool ships or improves, or when a guide or the tracker gets a major update, and one email offering a free month of the tracker. One-click unsubscribe. In the tracker, an email after each scheduled run, which each member can turn off. No drip campaigns, no webinars.

Locan is built and maintained by a small team of local SEO specialists based in Europe who have ranked local businesses across the US, the UK, Australia and Europe for many years, in-house, at agencies and independently. We put the tools and guides online because the questions were always the same.

How Locan is paid for
The tracker is what we sell
The free tools cost little to run: they read public Google data, use a small AI model sparingly, and the site is static. A fair daily limit per visitor keeps the cost down instead of a paywall.
The AI visibility tracker is paid because every question it checks calls paid APIs. Beyond that there are no ads, no affiliate links to software we would not use, no lead forms feeding an agency sales team, and no data sold.
